A dream or reality...

There is this thing which occurred to me out of nowhere. Call it a dream or imagination… up to you. A young girl was sleeping on her bed and when she woke up, found herself in a dark room. It was so dark, she couldn’t even see her own hands even if kept very close.. right in front of her face. A voice echoed in that space, “Keep moving straight, no diversions, no nothing… just straight. If you don’t, you’ll die! There are venomous snakes and other dangers around and only by walking on that path straight will you get by the other side safely.”
The girl was too afraid not to obey the orders. At
first, she walked straight, stumbling. Even after feeling like diverting from
her path every now and then, considering herself to be yet alive, she believed
that the path was right. She kept moving forward endlessly. It felt like
forever. She felt like finally stabilizing herself in terms of walking in an
accurately straight line. In the beginning, she was afraid of being hurt by
dangerous creatures but as she learned to walk straight, she was fearless. Now,
she knew that there is this line which will keep her safe no matter what… and
it did too, as a matter of fact. She was unharmed. She felt confident, she felt
comfortable walking alone in that dark. Just going straight felt like home to her. She started liking that place... a lot. She just loved what she was
doing. She felt at peace, nice and cozy.
Honestly, when
this thing came to me, I thought for a split second…what nonsensical thing is
this! Why she isn’t feeling hungry? What about other things one does in their
lifetime! How is she even growing up just walking? (In my visuals, she
was a woman now!)
But then again, the situation of her being in that
dark place was not ordinary either. So, I let it be.
She kept walking and walking and walking…
"I want this thing to end." "I have other
things to do than watching her go endlessly!", I thought. And guess what, the end came!
As she kept going forward, there came a point when she
was walking but not moving an inch. It felt like there was some wall not
letting her do so. Then again, the voice echoed, “Reach out your right hand
forward until you find a circular object, turn it right until it opens… it’s a
door. It will lead you to another room where you can decide whatever you want
to do. You finally reached your destination.” She did the same. But as she
turned the handle until it opened, she halted. A white light was seeping through
the crack of the door. It felt too strong to her. She couldn’t bear it. She
closed the door at once; it was hurting her eyes. The voice again echoed, “What’s
wrong! Go ahead! Now you are ready to move forward, to live your life!”
“I don’t want to”, she said in the air.
“Why?”, the voice was always gentle to her.
“This is where I belong, I feel peace. I don’t want to
go”
“Just go”, I shouted. I am still not sure if it
reached her ears!
“You don’t have to choose. Just know that it’s the
best for you. Go ahead”,
the voice echoed.
Out of nowhere, anger surged up from inside me willing
to destroy everything I saw and felt. I wanted to save that girl but I was
helpless. Even if I tried reaching my hands to her in that dark space to pull
her out of that, I knew I couldn’t do anything and yes, I couldn’t. I didn't even know where I was in that space.
My anger and helplessness increased and I felt my blood boiling, being heated up so much that it could melt everything I was seeing…
and it did. Everything melted. Nothing was left. Through that anger and
helplessness, I opened my eyes suddenly, found my mom sweeping the room. As
usual, my eyes went to the ceiling. The fan was switched off. My mom was
shouting at me to wake up- that I always wake up late. She went out of the room
without switching on the fan. I got out of my bed frustrated, switched it on,
closed the door shut, went to my bed again as the darkness engulfed me.
